The Advanced Shamanism Courses:
Shamanic Therapy (shamanic counselling and psychotherapy).
These advanced courses are for those who...
There is no hard and fast rule as to how much prior experience in shamanism is necessary for doing these workshops, but a rough guideline would be to have already done at least half a dozen of the foundation weekends, and ideally to be on (or have completed) the Practitioner Training. Prior experience in counselling and/or psychotherapy, although not necessary, also greatly helps and will be taken into account in applying for the courses.
The courses are modular, and people are free to do the workshops they feel drawn to.
The main focus of the modules will be to explore the interface between shamanism and counselling/psychotherapy, and how the two disciplines can enhance and enrich each other. Much of the work will involve going into the Underworld - the fourth shamanic realm. Different to the Lower-world, the Underworld is actually an aspect of the Middle-world. It is the shadow realm of our own unawareness; of our mental constructs and thought forms, and the place where we store bits of our self that we deny and have not integrated.
Each module will usually be between 4 and 6 weekends long. The modules include:
The Art of Being: exploring the key skills in shamanic counselling. Covering the essential and most-important skills of shamanic counselling, this module will explore the interface between shamanism and person-centred counselling work. It will include the art of ‘sitting in council’ - the creation of a respectful and healing listening space. More details here.
The Art of Tracking: uncovering, following and unpacking processes, symptoms, and meanings. Exploring the interface between shamanism and process-orientated psychotherapy, this module will explore how work at depth with messages, images, metaphors and symptoms. More details here.
The Art of Mapping: exploring models and maps of processes. A module exploring the links between shamanism and types of psychological terrain, including working with Reichian character analysis, and sub-personality theories (including Voice Dialogue work). More details here.
The Art of Repatterning: working with patterns, constellations and relationships. Using shamanic variations on constellation work, to heal dysfunctional family patterns, groups, relationships between body organs and systems, and more. More details here.
The Art of Imaging: going beyond the verbal. Using imagery, painting, drawing and sculpting to get beyond the limitations of words, and delve deeper into the shamanic realms. Exploring techniques from art therapy in a shamanic context. More details here.
The Advanced Courses will form part of what will be a Shamanic Therapist (Advanced Practitioner) training. More details to follow.
“In the ‘Art of’ courses Paul combines his extensive experience of Shamanic Revelation and of the Person-Centred approach to pioneer a unique branch of eco-psychotherapy. The meta-narrative he has developed provides an inspirational and much needed voice in eco-politics at this crucial time in the life of our planet. From profound insights into levels of consciousness, the shamanic realms, and the reality of our contemporary existence, Paul has emerged with a form of shamanic counselling that is breathtakingly powerful. The intensity of the healing that I have witnessed on these weekends is like nothing I have experienced before. These courses are propelling my learning and spiritual development to a depth that I didn’t know was possible. I feel honoured to be a part of this movement: a movement that raises awareness through connectedness, empowers through accountability, and facilitates transformation on a personal and potentially global scale.” L.M., Cumbria.
