Bird medicine: a Medicine Bundle course.
In two parts, although the weekends can also be taken individually.
Dates: Ran in 2015. To be repeated at some point in the future. Please email me if you are interested.
Eagle, Owl, Hawk, Falcon, Heron, Crow, Raven, Blackbird, Robin, Toucan, Condor, Sparrow, Albatross, Goose, Penguin, Swan, Dove, Peacock, Parrot, Pied wagtail, Woodpecker, Wren… just a few of the many powerful bird allies and guides. In many cultures birds are said to be messengers of the gods. They certainly have a strong connection with Spirit and with Father Sun, and can be great teachers with strong medicines. As a group, they are excellent healers of mother and father wounds, and can help us to deepen our connection to Spirit. Additionally each bird has specific healing gifts, both mental/emotional and physical, that go far beyond the more general information you will find by looking in ‘animal guide’ books, or on the internet. Swans for example, are healers of deep and long-lasting grief; grief that is as strong years down the line as when it first started. Or grief that has no obvious origin - inherited, ancestral grief, with Whooper swan being about where the wound is about father and/or society/groups, and Bewick’s Swan where the wound is about lover. Robin is a profound healer of wounds from dysfunctional families. Owl is powerful medicine for the eyes, Humbolt Penguin for shame, Condor for sore throats and digestive problems, Hawk for anger about feeling trapped in family situations, and so on. Over these weekends we will immerse ourselves deeply in the experience of being Bird. We will explore Bird in general, then some of the sub-groups such as the Raptors, the Corvids, the Songbirds, Water Birds and so on. We will also do group ‘Grokkings’ on some specific birds, to understand and experience their healing in detail and great depth.
The overall theme that we will be focusing on over the course of the two Bird weekends is how to get the balance right between being wild and being domesticated (and how Bird can help us with this). Over the two weekends we will explore issues such as: feeling 'caged' and trapped, and wanting to break free; conflicts between being a parent and/or family duties, and wanting to be free; being an individual v. being accepted by the group; the pull of the spiritual cf. living in the mundane world. There will be plenty of opportunity to look at the various groups you belong to (family, work, society etc) and look at the cost-benefit ratio, and get any help and healing from Bird for any issues and problems.
